I’m so excited to see Austin Freeman & The Hard Souls Band release their song “Ain't Hard to Choose" with video footage from them recording at Airship Laboratories and Tea House West. This tune is a guaranteed hit with its catchy hooks and earworm melody. I have a feeling Austin and his band have a big future ahead of them with an arsenal of good songs that appeal to a wide audience. I hope to work with this talented musician and help him and his band achieve more success. Would love to hear what you think of the song, so leave me a comment and share your thoughts!
Oakland dance trio Planet Booty released their newest music video “Junk In The Trunk” today! The video theme is all about celebrating your sexiness that may result in a religious experience no matter where or who you are. The song features rapper El-Gun Legro and the video includes a lot of local fans. I myself almost made it to the filming, but sadly had something come up.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 21, 2019
Barb Rocks announced the signing of San Jose's dreampop rockers Frantic Romantic to her management roster. Having worked with the band in their previous incarnation, as well as managing lead singer Mr. Kerosene's former band Drop Dead Sixty, it was only natural for Frantic Romantic to sign with the local band manager they already trusted and built repertoire with.
Frantic Romantic emerged from the ashes of Skyway View with an arsenal of new music, which they've been releasing monthly since October 2018. Comprised of six strangers who came together to handcraft a sonic, melodic miasma of songs, they’ve been compared to the likes of The Cure, Echo and the Bunnymen, and Psychedelic Furs. Both melodic and aggressive, they possess a sound sonically reminiscent of decades past, oozing 80’s new wave mixed with 90’s culture, with a stage presence to match. With four singles and accompanying videos released already, plus a new video and full EP coming this Spring, the band is ready to burst out of California music scene and gain traction wherever they can.
In regards to working together, Frantic Romantic's Mr. Kerosene said, "We’re very excited to announce our official partnership with Barb Rocks. Barb has a quality that few others possess: she really gives a damn. She wants musicians to succeed, and she’ll fight for bands even when they aren’t fighting for themselves. As a group, we feel our dedication to our work will not only be matched, but heightened by her services. She has a myriad of resources and she makes herself constantly available. We look forward to working with our manager and close friend, Barb Rocks."
Barb Rocks said of Frantic Romantic, "I’ve always been impressed with the drive, passion, and energy the band has to make it in this business. Not only is Frantic Romantic releasing quality songs with entertaining videos, they are also eager to learn and find new ways to garner people’s attention. Working with musicians who are actively involved in achieving their goals with a distinct creative vision is every manager’s dream, and together we can achieve new heights.”
Both Frantic Romantic and Barb Rocks are excited for this union and what the future holds, confident their working relationship will lead to prosperous years ahead.
Be sure to check out all the creative music videos Frantic Romantic has released in the last four months and be sure subscribe to their YouTube Channel! The band is currently shooting their new music video which they plan to release in March, followed by the release of their debut LP Celestina. And don’t forget to stream their music on Spotify!
Amping up for a wild Friday? So is this werewolf. Watch his night out on the town in Frantic Romantic’s latest music video “Un Lobo Entre Nosotros.”
The video follows a lonely wolf creeping the city streets and causing some trouble, as well as the band and friends dressed in various animal heads jammin’ out to the song. Not only does watching the video make you wish you’d been at the video filming in your own animal spirit mask, but it also conveys that there’s a little wolf in all of us.
Stay tuned for another awesome video coming this Spring with the release of their full new album!

Frantic Romantic’s lead singer Mr. Kerosene and guitarist Rube Walker were recently on Loudini’s Rock & Roll Circus talking about how the band started and their new music.

San Jose dream-pop rockers Frantic Romantic released their newest single “Celestina” today with an awesome animated video created by lead singer Mr. Kerosene!
Middle Tennessee Music premiered the video with a raving review stating:
“California based rockers Frantic Romantic emanate the essence (and a charming nostalgia) for the magical process of music discovery during an era now simply referred to as the ’90s. They are that band you stumbled upon in a shitty dive bar one random night with whom you uncontrollably fell in love with. Their songs were included on those mixtapes you carefully curated and handed to your girlfriend(s). They are the band you tried to emulate with your middle school buddies during talent shows. They are rock and roll from a gradually distancing era of music history that many of us hold near and dear to our hearts.“
Gestures & Sounds announced their album release show on Thursday, November 15, stacked with performances by The Go Ahead [SF], North By North, Will Moore [Seattle] & Mint Trip at the Hi Hat in Los Angeles. Tickets are $6.00-$8.00 and can be purchased online (21+ show). Come celebrate the release of Gestures & Sounds' new EP "Lightning Is the Name of a Dog" and see their latest music video!

In honor of Dia De Los Muertos, San Jose dream-pop rockers Frantic Romantic released their second single and music video today with an awesome premiere in No Depression magazine! Writer Mary Roberts states:
“With Alt-Pop hooks, the group easily wins over your heart and your ears which does the soul good. Vibrant melodies take over the track as it captures the nature of the band and also the video. Bound to win you over, Frantic Romantic quickly proves they have staying power in the modern era.“
The band was lucky enough to get another write-up via Music Existence, who’s writer Stephen Vicino wrote:
”The video not only shows the essence of the group in song, but also as a visual masterpiece. Their sonically alluring sound blends perfectly with a strong melodic flow that resonates throughout. The video perfectly captures the essence of the song with solid instrumentation and intriguing vocals which helps to convey the story of the piece.”

San Jose’s new dream-pop rockers Frantic Romantic released their first single “At Night” today with an awesome music video! Thanks to PureGrainAudio for debuting the band’s moody song about solitude, as well as the incredible artwork of their upcoming album.
Lead singer Mr. Kerosene talks about the making of the video in the article, stating:
”We really wanted to play into the title and the mood of the song, which is basically bleak solitude. The whole band is separated, playing this song in their version of the same room.”
The Benefits of Art and Music Therapy for Individuals in Recovery
For many years now, art and music have played a big part in the recovery of individuals who have battled things like depression, substance abuse, and PTSD. Waking up the creative side of the brain can have so many positive effects on a person’s life that music and art have been incorporated into therapies for these issues and many others. Not only can it help with expressing emotions, it can help a person become more social--effectively battling loneliness--and boost self-confidence, which is essential in overcoming many hurdles.
There are many ways to utilize art and music for the best benefits, so it’s important to find the one that works best for you. Many people who have told themselves for years that they “just aren’t creative” have found that they actually do have a hidden talent, or a passion for a form of creativity that they hadn’t previously explored. Do a little research first and explore the various ways creativity can help you overcome the things that are holding you back during recovery.
Here are a few tips on how to get started.
Learn to play an instrument
Learning to play an instrument can help you express yourself in a positive way while boosting your self-esteem, something that is so important when you are in recovery. Nowadays, it’s so easy to learn something new; there are tutorials and informative articles all over the internet, so do a bit of research to figure out what you might like to play. Woodwinds are very popular because they offer such a huge variety of sound, so you may want to start there. The saxophone and clarinet are wonderful instruments that can be adapted for many different musical styles. If woodwinds aren’t your thing, consider trying the trumpet; check out some reviews of the best trumpets on the market before you pick one up.
Help your body recover
In substance abuse recovery, it’s important to make sure that both your mind and body are taken care of. Art and music can help with both of those, and, in fact, are often employed in therapies for seniors who are in treatment for Alzheimer’s disease for that reason. Activities such as painting or playing an instrument are wonderful for gaining strength and control in the muscles, and they can both help reduce stress and lower blood pressure. Helping your body heal is a major part of recovery, and pursuing creative activities is a great way to start.
Get social
Not everyone is born knowing how to paint a masterpiece, so most of us need to learn at least the basics of art or music before creating our own. Taking a class will help you get social and make new connections, an essential part of recovery. You may feel reluctant to meet new people or talk about your past, but with creative endeavors, you don’t have to. Sharing your passion for painting or playing guitar is a way to bond with others and will help battle loneliness.
Boost your self-esteem
Turning to a creative pursuit during recovery will help boost your self-esteem in ways you might never have thought of. Learning what you’re good at and finding a passion for something new will allow you to form new friendships, take ownership of your actions, express both negative and positive emotions, and give you something to look forward to. In using art or music, you will be raising your self-esteem and self-confidence every day.
Creative activities don’t have to be limited to the visual arts or the musical; you can think outside the box and unite them, or pair music with another expression, such as dancing. Finding ways to express yourself can help you get through even the darkest of days during recovery and will allow you to live the life you want to live.
Big thanks to life and career coach Julie Morris for this great guest blog!
